Spring Caboose Camp
June 3-5 2016

Spring Caboose Camp (June 3-5): Mark your calendar. We will have our spring camp at a caboose camp site, in Woodland Trails, just outside of Aurora. There are 2 sleeping cabooses (each holding 8 bunks) and 1 eating caboose. These are real cabooses with a lookout window on top. Since each beaver needs a parent, there is only enough spots for 8 beavers. More info to come later. By the way, you can also bring a tent and camp on our spot, if there are more than 8 children.

top^

Aurora Food Pantry
March 2nd 2016

On March 2, the Beavers will be going to the Aurora Food Pantry, located at 350 Industrial Parkway South. Park in the back. They will learn about the Pantry and stack some food and see what various families get when they need to visit the Pantry. Let's help out by bringing a non-perishable food donation. Parents are not required to stay, although a few would be helpful. Regular drop off and pick up times are scheduled, 6:45 to 8:00

top^

Aurora Home Depot
February 24th 2016

On February 24, the Beavers will be going to the Aurora Home Depot to partake in the Kids Workshop program, where they will make a craft out of wood. The Organizer mentioned that a parent should accompany their child. We will have a regular meeting time, i.e. 6:45 to about 8:00. She doesn't know at this time where we'll meet, it could be in seasonal or lumber, but when you arrive, just let Customer Service know that you're with 5th Aurora Beavers and they'll let you know where to go.

Winterfest 2016
February 6 - 7th

Download: Download Flyer
This is a reminder for the upcoming Winterfest this weekend. I also have some updates included below. If you're interested, please re-read this. As mentioned in the January Beaver Log, there will be a South Lake Simcoe Winterfest on Saturday Feb 6. It's a daytime event for brown-tailed beavers and blue-tailed beavers but white-tailed beavers have the option to sleepover. This is a combined Beaver and Cub event (however I don't think the 5th Aurora Cubs are going). For the Cubs, it's a sleepover event. It will be held at the Pefferlaw Community Center and the address is 38 Pete's Lane in Pefferlaw. The theme is Minecraft (and not Mind Craft as the brochure noted). Please let me know by Wednesday Feb 3 if you will be going. I have already paid the non-refundable deposit on Jan 31 to the South Lake Simcoe Camp Organizers. She also wants to know numbers so that she can buy crests for the youth/leaders and plan/buy food for the weekend. You can pay me at our next meeting (Feb 3). Cash or cheque (if cheque, make it out to 5th Aurora Scouts). Daytime only is $10.00 but if you will be sleeping over, the whole fee is $15.00 (which includes the daytime fee). If parents are registered in My Scouts as an Active Leader, they can sleepover. If parents are registered in My Scouts as an Active Parent Helper, then I've got an email sent out to the Organizer to find out if they can sleepover. If the parent is not registered in My Scouts, then they can't sleep over. Parents who are allowed to sleepover, pay the same as their child. Parents are allowed to stay with their child for the daytime activities, if they want, but they must pay the same fee as the Beaver and must only help their own child. Please see the attached Winterfest Brochure to get more details. Please ask me all of your questions and I'll try to find out the answers for you. The Brochure says that ratios must be kept, which means that the more leaders that go, the more beavers that can go. For example, if I'm the only leader going, then we are only allowed to take 5 beavers and if 2 leaders go, then 10 beavers are allowed to go, etc. It says in the Brochure that registration is Sat morning at 10:00, but that is for me since I'll be collecting the money from parents and submitting one cheque to them minus the deposit that I have to pay ahead of time. If your child is coming, please let me know and also let me know if a parent is planning on attending too. I'm attaching the brochure again and a map. thanks Linda (Rusty)
